THE RETAIL BUYER CAREERS SURVEY-2008
Commissioned by Career Management, East Brunswick, NJ/New York, NY
METHODOLOGY: In May and June 2008, Career Management surveyed buyers from a cross-section of retail chains in the following categories and industries: apparel, footwear, jewelry/accessories, furniture/ decorative home/ housewares, electronics/appliances, sporting goods, office products, books/music, hardware/home improvement/auto supplies, department store, discount store/warehouse club/off-price big-box, and catalog/e-commerce. The findings from this group were validated against those drawn from a separate survey of a smaller group of human resource executives, general merchandise managers, divisional merchandise managers and other senior merchandising executives at a cross section of chains. These managers and executives were additionally questioned about issues related to buyer career paths and turnover within their organizations.
